AMS Clubs and Teams
Below is a list of our current clubs, a brief description of each and how students can join.
Builder’s Club- Builders Club is the largest service organization for middle school and junior high students, with more than 40,000 members worldwide. Members learn to work together and develop servant-leaders skills as they serve their school and community. Students can join this club in September.
Drama Club- Interested students audition for roles in the play in September or October when the play and different parts are announced. Students have to prepare a piece of music to sing and be able to read lines for the character they are auditioning for. Students in Drama Club prepare October through February for the March performance. Positions in Drama Club include: actors, extras, stage crew and tech crew.
English Festival- The English Festival is hosted by YSU. Throughout the year, English Festival participants meet together to discuss books chosen for us by the YSU English Festival committee. Then, in April, we will travel to YSU where the students from Austintown Middle School will meet with other middle school students around the Mahoning Valley to discuss the books, compete in writing contests, play games, and, best of all, meet some of the authors.
This group is open to 30, 7th and 8th grade students who love to read. They must commit to reading all the books on the list. Students can join this group at the beginning of the school year. Meetings are generally once a month hosted by some of our 7th and 8th grade ELA teachers.
FCA- Fellowship of Christian Anybodies is a student run club that meets one Tuesday per month after school. It is open to any interested student.
Lego League- FIRST LEGO League is an international competition organized by FIRST for elementary and middle school students. Each year in August, FIRST LEGO League introduces a scientific and real-world challenge for teams to focus and research on. They research this real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution.
Interested students apply in September. Teams are 8-10 members. AMS has a team for grade 6, 7 and 8.
RDE- RDE which stands for Reading, Discussion, and Enrichment is a voluntary academic reading program for students who are identified gifted in Reading. This, by invitation only, program is made up of students from grades 6-12. The students participate in reading challenging literature that generates deep discussions on relevant topics.
Ski Club- Ski club is open to all students at the middle school and high school. Any interested students may join. There is a fee for ski rentals and tickets. It averages around $250. Students can join in October and November of each school year.
Athletic Teams: A variety of teams are offered at AMS. They all require mandatory practices and tryouts. These occur at different times throughout the school year depending on what season the sport occurs in.

- 7th and 8th grade girls basketball
- 7th and 8th grade boys basketball
- 7th and 8th grade cheerleading
- Cross Country- 1 team consisting of boys and girls 7th and 8th grade
- 7th and 8th grade football
- 7th and 8th grade girls track
- 7th and 8th grade boys track
- 7th and 8th grade girls volleyball
- 7th and 8th grade wrestling
